So that's what I'm going to do - just fill it 1/2 or 3/4 of the way from now on. Sometimes the repair shops couldnt find the leaks so the owners "fixed" their problem by just not filling the tanks totally full anymore. I googled "1998 Jeep Cherokee gas leak after filling tank" and found that other owners have had this problem. ![]() I got the car back this morning and there's been no more gas leaking. The shop couldnt find a gas leak, although the repairman saw the huge pool of gasoline on my garage floor when he drove me home. I drove to the repair shop down the street yesterday morning. I looked under my car and, sure enough, there was at least a full cup of gasoline on the floor right underneath my tank. That night I went into the garage and was overwhelmed by the smell of gasoline fumes. I then drove straight home (6 blocks) and parked the car in the garage. I didnt top the tank off or overfill it - and the temperature outside, while hot, was certainly cooler than it's been many other times when I've filled the tank over the years. I went to the same gas station that I've used for the past 15 years. I filled my tank up the day before yesterday. ![]() My 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport has been a great car for 20 years but I have a problem now that's a bit concerning.
